“I decided to join Fulcrum Athletics in January. I had gained weight since college and was not happy with how I looked. I had tried going to regular gyms, but I never knew what I was doing, and often found myself frustrated due to lack of results. I had been scrolling through Groupon after Christmas and saw a deal for Fulcrum. I had heard about it before through a friend and had met with Bryce, but didn’t have the time to really dedicate to it. When I first started I was a little intimidated. I had never really lifted any weights, and I wasn’t the best at cardio. The Fulcrum community welcomed me with open arms. The coaches are friendly and caring. They want you to succeed, but they also really care about your health. Since I started in January, I have lost a total of 40 pounds. I went from barely being able to lift 30 pounds to being able to lift more than I could ever imagine. I see myself getting stronger, more toned, and losing weight and it motivates me to be better. A common theme with many people in joining a gym is that they expect it will be easy to get in shape. They’ll go a couple times here and there, feel a really good sense of accomplishment and BAM! They’re in shape! Strong, fit, lean, looking like what they had imagined. However, this is NEVER the case! Getting in shape sucks. It’s hard. It takes dedication, sacrifice, and a commitment to yourself, something that many people just don’t have. Envisioning yourself in a training routine three times a week or more and what that will look like six months down the road is easy at first. But, the daily grind is both mentally and physically challenging, and will make you want to quit. When you see yourself in the mirror everyday, it is hard to notice that change. However, fast forward to five or sixth months down the road and having lost 40 lbs. and you will have surpassed everything that you once thought impossible!
Some people like training and some people don’t. Those who like it also have days that are just bad. Times when they question themselves as to why they even bother, what’s the point? However, those same people are able to see into the future. No, they’re not psychic, they are just able to make sense of the process and believe that it will take them where they want to be. Belief in what you’re doing will make or brake you. If you don’t believe in it, it WILL NOT WORK! Even though it may be the best program in the world, created by the smartest mind in the world, YOU WILL FAIL, guaranteed. If you do believe in it and trust the process, you will get to where you want to be, but you need to keep that vision of your future self and despite what happens, stay the course. Muhammad Ali was asked about training and was quoted that he hated every minute of it! However, he understood that it would make him the best. He understood and believed in the process. “…suffer now, and live the rest of your life as a champion.” Obviously, most of us aren’t boxers, but this applies to everything in training of any kind. You need to put in the work! There will never be a magic pill and the only thing keeping you from getting where you want to be is YOU.
